Concert Resurgence

Before COVID, concerts were beloved. Now, the thought of being packed in a stadium with a bunch of other teens seems daunting with the virus, but concerts have recently come back and now look different.

There are a lot of aspects that have changed. Some artists have chosen smaller venues - one of the reasons why my favorite artist Gracie Abrams sold out tickets so quickly. A lot of places now require vaccination cards/negative tests, and a lot of these places highly encourage mask-wearing regardless of your vaccination status.

The next concert I’ll go to is a Wallows one all the way in June...in the meanwhile, I wanted to feature some of my friends that have been to a concert/festival recently and ask them about their experience. The photos will do most of the explaining :)

First, my friend Amanda Park went to a Harry Styles concert in New York City. Here is some of what she had to say: “I had an amazing time at Harry! It was such a great feeling of going to concerts and seeing one of my favorite artists perform...everyone was dressed up, it was like fashion week with boas and patterned pants. We had to show security guards our COVID vaccine cards and an ID. Then, you could go to your seat. Once I found my spot, I got merch and dinner. After we ate, we took some pictures and talked to the other girls in our section. Harry has this thing where he plays his playlist before the concert starts, and once “good 4 u” by Olivia Rodrigo came on, the whole stadium of teenage girls started singing along - it was so funny. The concert was so much fun. It’s been a week and I still cannot believe I saw Harry Styles. I was speechless. I was dancing all night, screamed my head off, and took lots of videos and photos. I almost cried during “Falling” and “Fine Line”. After a song, he would converse with the audience - and at one point he saw dads in the audience and had a full-on conversation with them. Throughout the whole concert, everyone was wearing their masks except when they needed to drink or eat. It was so fun seeing all of these fans get together and enjoy their time with one another. It was a night that I will never forget. It was such an amazing experience and definitely one of my favorite concerts!”

My other friend Brooke went to Govball! Here are her thoughts: “Overall, the COVID protocols at Gov Ball were very organized and extremely efficient! We had to either show a vaccination card or a negative COVID test on the way into the festival, and we received yellow wristbands after waiting in line for about 5 minutes. I felt really safe knowing that everyone there was required to show some proof that they were COVID-free because there are so many people so close together, and I knew I wouldn’t be able to enjoy my time there if I had to worry about COVID. It was nice to see some return of normalcy...everyone was just vibing, having a good time. I hope to go to another music festival soon!”

I’m glad that concerts despite the pandemic have found their way back into our lives in a safe, but fun manner. Thanks for reading this article - who are you most excited to see in concert next? Let us know!
