Lucy Hopson Interview

nof1lterzinecontac

Recently, we got to talk to Lucy Hopson, an incredibly talented teen. At just 16, she's turned a her hobbies of journaling into beautiful pieces of art, (some of which has been featured by VSCO) and more! Thank you Lucy for talking to us about true authenticity and passion when it comes to doing what you love.

  1. Do you plan on pursuing a career in the arts? Or do you want to go to college for art?

    1. “I’d say I’ve been consistently creating for almost two years now with no other intent but to connect with my authenticity. I’ve never really wholeheartedly considered pursuing it, passing that or alchemizing it into something that could serve as a sustainable occupation. Although I would love to have a career related to my creative pursuits, it just feels out of my reach at the moment. I’m definitely willing to make that leap if ever given the opportunity though.”

  2. What was it like to be featured by VSCO?

    1. “I am so incredibly grateful for all of the features VSCO has supported me with because it has opened several doors I once never even deemed feasible for myself. VSCO is a pretty large platform so it has helped others discover me, as well as me discover others, which is the baseline for many of the connections I have formed with other artists over the past couple of years.”

  3. How do you get inspiration for your art/edits?

    1. “I have been journaling for a large portion of my life. It’s my way of releasing something unspoken by putting it into a relational home in which it can be held. My entries are undeniably my main source of inspiration for the work I put out.”

  4. What artists, if any do you look up to?

    1. “I have so many creators that I look up to and draw inspiration from so this is a bit of a difficult question, but to give an idea, I would say Gregory Crewdson, Michael Lipsey, and Henri Prestes.”

  5. Do you solely work with digital art or do you use other mediums as well?

    1. “I will occasionally experiment with other mediums but digital is definitely where I invest most of my effort and time. Every photo I use for my work I take with my DSLR and later edit using different programs.”

  6. Is there a favorite work of art you’ve made? If so, explain!

    1. “My style is constantly evolving and changing so I can’t really say I have one singular favorite. However, if I had to put it in a general context, I would say I prefer my most recent work over the stuff I’ve created in the past.”

  7. What is a goal you have in regards to you art (someone you want to recognize your art, a specific place you want your art published, etc)

    1. “Being recognized is definitely a flattering advantage to creating but it has never been my motive whatsoever My art is a way for me to relate and my goal is to help others to be able to do the same.”
