I don’t know what your routines have been like lately, but this is how mine has been going: wake up, yell at my alarm to shut up, roll out of bed, go to school, come home, eat, sleep, and repeat. It feels like I have to force myself to get through the week, and I’m sure most of you feel the same. You make plans for the weekend, but when Sunday comes, you feel this uneasy pit feeling in your stomach that the weekend is over, and you’re going to have to endure another grueling week of doing the same thing over and over again. It’s like Happy Death Day, except instead of dying, you feel stuck in a universe of monotony and dread. So, how do you get rid of this awful feeling?
I am certainly no psychologist, but I like to call this feeling a rut. It’s completely normal to feel bored when you’re doing the same thing everyday, especially during school season. If any of you have taken physics, you’ll know that energy cannot be created nor destroyed, it can only be converted. Honestly, this law of physics can actually apply to your life circumstances. If you start to think positively and look for the little things in your normal day that make you happy, this energy can be converted into something great: you may feel inspired to start a project or do something nice for your family.
Even though your current life situation seems unchanging, it’s important to never allow yourself to reach that dark place in which you constantly ask yourself, “What’s it all for?” Stay high on life, whether it's through the big or little pleasures you encounter. For me, a simple morning walk around the neighborhood goes a long way. There’s a pond near my house that I like to go to and listen to the sounds of the streaming water and the chirping birds. The fall colors of the trees are absolutely beautiful, and I usually get this clarifying moment in which I realize how grateful I am for not only nature but for the way I get to live, the family and friends I have, etc.
I’m not saying that a stroll in your local park will automatically solve all of your problems, but trust me when I say the little things do help. Have a dance party in your room, or try on some new outfits: anything that will hold you over for at least a moment. Remember, YOU control how you live, and YOU have the power to make everyday interesting. Soon enough, the weekend WILL come.
