Fashion is a huge part of teen culture: it can represent our identities in ways more powerful than you may expect. In this article, we have featured an interview with Sami, a teen with impeccable fashion taste, and we have also listed our personal fashion aesthetics as well as our favorite trends. We also asked you guys what your favorite trends are on Instagram, so we’ve featured them at the end of the article as well as some of your favorite outfits.

How would you describe your fashion aesthetic?
I feel like I jump between different aesthetics a lot. This sounds so cliche, but I like to wear whatever makes me feel hot. I don’t really stick to one thing, but definitely whatever I feel suits how I am feeling that day and my body type too. There’s a lot of things I just can’t pull off. I wouldn’t consider it one aesthetic because I literally can’t choose. I hop between quite a few.
How do you find inspiration for your outfits?
Pinterest definitely. I have boards and boards of clothes for interest, and whenever I want to buy clothes, I just go on Pinterest and find what I like, and then I try to find it online or in stores.
How has your style changed over the years?
I’ve always had sort of a moderate style, not too crazy. I’ve always liked colors, but I think now I incorporate a lot more color into my clothes, because my closet literally used to be all black, white, red, and some blue. So, I tried to expand my color palette. I’m a lot better at accessorizing now. And I’ve always accessorized but just not the right things. I’d say that’s about it.
Do you have any favorite new fashion trends?
I definitely have a few. I love the blazer leather jackets. I’ve gotten three in the past month for the winter. I love those crochet hats, they’re so cute, I want one. I love mesh tops and layering. I’ve been liking low rise pants a lot. Right now I’m obsessing over that kind of stuff.
Do you have any least favorite trends?
Yeah definitely. This is kind of controversial, and I feel like many people won’t agree with me on this. I’m not super into cargo pants. I love them, but the thick, huge ones are really popular and more high fashion, and maybe it’s a look, but I don’t really like it. I don’t know what else I would say; I feel like it depends on the person. I feel like sometimes there’s things I see on myself or other people that I don’t think look good and then it looks good on someone else. It’s just subjective I guess.
Do you have any favorite brands or boutiques?
I spend most of my money on Depop, but obviously that’s not a brand. Unif is really expensive, but I love their stuff. Brandy Melville, Princess Polly, and Urban Outfitters: those are great for basics I would say. And for things to splurge on, definitely Unif and stuff from Depop I just can’t afford.
What are your favorite accessories?
Definitely jackets. I feel like jackets make an outfit come together. I have so many different jackets. It’s insane, I keep buying jackets, and I love that for the winter time. Hats, bags, and I’d say just jewelry in general. Not even anything specific, just anything that complements the outfit, and I feel like jewelry just always makes the outfit better.
Do you have a favorite outfit that you’ve worn?
I’ve been really liking mini skirts. I wore a plaid mini skirt with a white button down and a sweater vest with a leather jacket on top. Very cute outfit.
What celebrities are you inspired by?
I don’t really get my inspo from celebrities because I feel like most of them are models, and it’s an unrealistic standard. I feel like the clothes won’t look the same on me, so I can’t really give an answer for that one. I don’t really look up to celebrities for fashion.
Do you have any closet essentials that you would recommend to our readers/
Definitely a pair of basic jeans, whether it’s low rise or high rise, and statement accessories: statement handbags, statement jackets that you can reuse in outfits and it doesn’t seem as repetitive because they’re accessories. I feel like collars are also really in right now like collared button downs, collared polos, that kind of stuff for layering.
Our Personal Styles
Ari:
Izzy is definitely more in tune with style out of the both of us. I’m one of the youngest cousins in my entire family, so my whole fashion styles my entire life has been hand me downs. Because of this, I’ve never really put much thought into my clothes until recently, as I’ve grown up. I don’t think I ever truly realized how important one’s style is in relation to their identity and personality. I would say that I dress fairly comfort
ably and girly. I live in leggings. I’m trying to step out of my comfort zone though! One thing I do with my outfits is to accessorize a ton. Jewelry, hats, bags. I think that little things like this really elevate an outfit, and most importantly boost my confidence. Recently though, I’ve been really liking low rise jeans and cropped tank tops, like the ones with a cute pattern or a small lace detailing. Oh, I’ve also been loving skirts and preppy clothing. Overall, I would say that my style involves a lot of pastel colors and can be seen as
fairly casual. One thing I want to mention though, is that finding clothes that suit you and compliment your body well is super important. It’s one thing to see a piece of clothing on a mannequin or a model, but there’s nothing like trying on an item in a dressing room and seeing how it looks and feels on you.
Izzy:
My style has definitely changed a lot over the past few years,
and a lot of it was influenced by trends and just a change in my attitude. My confidence levels have increased immensely, especially this year, and I’m not afraid to wear clothing that may seem “weird” to other people. I wouldn’t categorize my fashion aesthetic as one type. Lately, I’ve been loving baggy jeans, no matter the color, but I usually like to stick with a light wash blue or just black. What I’ve especially liked recently is pairing small tops with big bottoms. Recently, my go to outfit would be a super feminine, cropped, and tight top with a big baggy pair of jeans. However, since the weather is getting colder, I’ve been trying to incorporate more outerwear into my outfits. I also love graphic tees and sweaters. They are super comfortable, and I also think it adds more flavor to an outfit while remaining relatively casual. Moving on from clothing pieces, I’ve been slowly integrating more jewelry and accessories into my outfits. I absolutely love silver jewelry, especially chains. If you know me well, you’ll also know that I have an obsession with belts: from designer belts to chain belts to simple black or white belts. As for shoes, my favorite ones are definitely my FOG converse, Doc Martens, and Air Force 1s. Although these shoes are relatively simple, I could
pair them with so many outfits, which make them good investments for me. As for my favorite colors to wear, I will usually stick with black. I think it suits me the best, and also it just goes with other colors really nicely. I also really like red, blue, and lately brown has been gaining a lot of popularity, so I’m thinking of incorporating that color more as well. Overall, I just wear what makes me feel confident and comfortable, which I think are both crucial factors to take into consideration.
